Our Off-Road Driving 101 and Vehicle Recovery clinics start from zero. The Backcountry Medical Certification is designed for all levels — beginners will learn everything from scratch, while experienced students will deepen and validate their skills. - **Are there vehicle requirements to take these courses?** Any modern, reliable 4x4 vehicle will work for all of our clinics. People are often surprised how capable a stock 4WD is with proper fundamental driving skills — which we will happily teach you. Our Moab Overland Tour and Moab Helicopter Assault Tours require a dependable vehicle with a low-range transfer case and a minimum of 32" tires. A locker is highly recommended but not required. - **Why is class size limited to 5 students?** Because quality instruction in a backcountry environment requires individual attention. We don't run large groups through a set script — we adapt to each student's pace, comfort level, and learning style. The 5-student cap is non-negotiable and core to our philosophy. - **What certification will I earn?** The Backcountry Medical Certification clinic offers Wilderness First Aid (WFA) for the standard 3-day program, and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) for advanced students. These are nationally recognized credentials. Vehicle Recovery and Off-Road Driving 101 are skills-based clinics and do not include formal certification. - **Do I need specific gear or a specific vehicle?** For vehicle-based clinics, bring your own overland vehicle. You'll learn on what you drive. For the medical clinic, we provide all training equipment including training manikins, trauma supplies, and reference materials. A gear checklist will be provided upon registration. - **Where do clinics take place?** Clinics rotate between Utah terrain including the Uinta Mountains, the West Desert, and occasionally Moab canyon country. Exact locations are confirmed upon registration. All locations are accessible by standard overland vehicles. - **Can I book a private or corporate group session?** Yes. We accommodate private groups for hunting parties, jeep clubs, corporate team-building, and family sessions. Contact us directly to discuss scheduling and custom curriculum. All private sessions still maintain the 5-student maximum per instructor. - **What's your refund or cancellation policy?** We understand plans change. Cancellations 30+ days before your clinic receive a full refund. Within 30 days, you may transfer to a future session at no charge. Within 7 days, we offer a credit for a future clinic. Full details provided at booking. ## Articles - [TimberRaven Now Offering American Red Cross CPR & First Aid Certification Starting September 2026](https://timberraven.com/blog/timberraven-now-offering-american-red-cross-cpr-first-aid-certification-starting-september-2026): TimberRaven is expanding its clinic lineup with American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications for adults and pediatrics, launching September 2026. - [Build Your Own ACTR Range IFAK: The Exact Gear List We Recommend](https://timberraven.com/blog/build-your-own-actr-range-ifak-the-exact-gear-list-we-recommend): The exact minimum and upgraded IFAK loadout we recommend to ACTR students, with honest notes on where to spend and where to save. - [TimberRaven ACTR vs. Stop the Bleed: What's the Real Difference?](https://timberraven.com/blog/timberraven-actr-vs-stop-the-bleed-whats-the-real-difference): Stop the Bleed teaches the basics.
