Backcountry
First-Aid 101
Hands-on emergency skills for the people who lead others into the field — and can't afford to be the least prepared person in the group.
Overview
You're the one
they'll look to
Backcountry First-Aid 101 is TimberRaven's foundational field clinic, built specifically for people who spend serious time in serious terrain. Hunters, overlanders, river guides, hunt camp regulars, trail crew leads, and anyone who regularly takes others into the backcountry — this is the course designed for how you actually operate.
You'll leave with more than a certificate. You'll leave with the hands-on reps, the protocol, and the confidence to act fast when the situation doesn't give you time to think.
Why TimberRaven
Not your standard
first-aid class
Most first-aid certifications are built around urban settings — controlled environments, fast EMS response, close access to hospitals. The backcountry operates by different rules. TimberRaven training is built around those rules.
Real Terrain. Real Conditions.
Clinic day happens in the field — not a classroom. You practice where the emergencies actually happen.
Student-on-Student Scenarios
You're not practicing on a mannequin. You assess real people, make real decisions, and get real feedback.
The MARCH Protocol
The same systematic assessment framework used in military and tactical medicine — adapted for backcountry civilian use.
TR MIST+NCO Reporting
Know exactly what to tell Search & Rescue when you call for help — and how to give them what they need to find you fast.
Small Groups Only
Never more than 5 students per instructor. Everyone gets hands-on reps. Nobody watches from the back of the room.
Three Certifications, One Day
CPR Total, Stop The Bleed™, and your TR credential — all bundled into a single blended learning + clinic day format.
Format
How it works
The course is split into two phases — online prep you complete on your own schedule, followed by a full day in the field. Both phases are required. Both count toward your certifications.
Online Learning
Complete your AHA CPR online module, TimberRaven's Stop The Bleed™ video overview, and the TR Backcountry First-Aid video course — all on your own schedule before clinic day. Section quizzes and a final exam confirm you're ready to work. Passing score required to attend.
Clinic Day — Full Day, In the Field
One full day of hands-on training. CPR skills assessment, MARCH protocol practicals, Stop The Bleed™ scenarios, common backcountry injury management, SAR communication, and a capstone scenario that ties it all together. Your CPR Total card is issued at the end after your in-person skills are verified.

Credentials
What you walk away with
Every student who completes both the online prerequisite and the clinic day leaves with three certifications and a set of skills that don't expire when the paperwork does.
AHA certification earned through bundled online training plus in-person skills assessment at the clinic.
Nationally recognized hemorrhage control — TQ application, wound packing, and pressure techniques.
TimberRaven credential earned through passing online coursework and completing all clinic day requirements.
Who Should Attend
Who this is for
This course is designed for people who operate in the backcountry — not people who are thinking about going someday. If you spend real time in real terrain, this training belongs in your kit.
No medical background required. The course is designed to be learned by people who aren't medical professionals — and who need skills that work under stress, in the dirt, with whatever they have on hand.
